Multicolor Photometry of Red Giant Candidates in the Southern Open Cluster NGC 2447
Photoelectric photometry in the UBV, DDO and Washington systems ispresented for 14 late-type giant candidates of the southern open clusterNGC 2447. By applying two independent photometric criteria, nine starsare found to have a high probability of being cluster giants. Thephotometric membership results are in good agreement with those derivedfrom published Coravel radial velocities. The mean interstellarreddening EB-V = 0.05±0.04 has been derived from theconfirmed cluster giants. NGC 2447 has a mean ultraviolet excess<δ (U-B)> = 0.01±0.02 (σ n) withrespect to solar composition K giants, and a mean cyanogen anomaly<Δ CN> = 0.01±0.02 (σ n), bothimplying a small metal deficiency ([Fe/H] ≃ -0.1). Fiveindependent Washington abundance indices yield a mean clustermetallicity of [Fe/H] = -0.09±0.06, in agreement with the twoprevious estimates. Therefore, NGC 2447 is found to be slightlymetal-poor.

Absolute proper motions of open clusters. I. Observational data
Mean proper motions and parallaxes of 205 open clusters were determinedfrom their member stars found in the Hipparcos Catalogue. 360 clusterswere searched for possible members, excluding nearby clusters withdistances D < 200 pc. Members were selected using ground basedinformation (photometry, radial velocity, proper motion, distance fromthe cluster centre) and information provided by Hipparcos (propermotion, parallax). Altogether 630 certain and 100 possible members werefound. A comparison of the Hipparcos parallaxes with photometricdistances of open clusters shows good agreement. The Hipparcos dataconfirm or reject the membership of several Cepheids in the studiedclusters. CCD photometry and astrometry of visual double and multiple stars of the HIPPARCOS Catalogue. II. CCD photometry and differential astrometry of 288 southern ``Intermediate'' systems
We present photometric and astrometric data of about 280 visual doublestars of the ``intermediate'' class, i.e. with angular separationsmainly in the range 2arcsec < rho < 12arcsec . The observationshave been obtained in 1991-92 with a CCD camera attached to the 91 cmDutch telescope at ESO La Silla, Chile. Differential magnitudes of thedouble star components as well as magnitudes and colour indices of theindividual components have been determined in the Cousins V and Ipassbands with an internal error of about 0.005 mag and an externalaccuracy of less than 0.03 mag. In addition, angular separations havebeen secured to an internal accuracy of 0.004arcsec and position anglesto about 0.05degr. Tables 1 to 4 are only available in electronic format the CDS via ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/Abstract.html. Based on observationscollected at the European Southern Observatory, La Silla, Chile.

Red giants in open clusters. I - Binarity and stellar evolution in five Hyades-generation clusters: NGC 2447, 2539, 2632, 6633, and 6940
The present analysis for membership-determination and binary-detectionof radial velocity observations for 62 red giant stars in the HyadeslikeNGC 2447, 2539, 2632, 6633, and 6940 open clusters has yielded a binarypercentage of the order of 25-33 percent. Twelve orbits have beendetermined, and two triple systems identified. At least nine of the tenstars found in the Hertzsprung gap are composite binaries of the (gK +dA) type; the radial velocity dispersion in each cluster is close to thevalue expected on the basis of the virial theorem, assuming typicalvalues of the total mass of 1000 solar masses, and of a half-mass radiusof 3 pc.

NGC 2447 and the reddening and luminosity of normal red giants
Intermediate-band, RI, and H-beta observations of the cluster NGC 2447in Puppis, which contains nine or ten red giants and bright giants, arepresented. Results are presented for 36 cluster stars. Photometricparameters are also presented for A and F type stars in the cluster, highly evolved A and F type stars, bright giants, normal red giants, redgiants of Hyades abundances, and O type stars. The reddening andluminosities of the normal cluster giants are exhibited, and therelation between R-I and b-y for O type stars is shown. The luminosityand reddening calibrations for A/F stars and red normal giants andbright giants give concordant results.
